Poveste:
Elena, una dintre cele mai populare eleve din liceul în care studiază, a avut parte în urmă cu 4 luni de o mare tragedie: părinţii ei au murit într-un accident de avion. Astfel, aceasta, împreună cu fratele ei în vârstă de 15 ani, trebuie să facă faţă imensei pierderi. Anul şcolar tocmai a început. Elena, împreună cu prietenele ei, este fascinată de prezenţa unui nou elev, tânăr, misterios şi carismatic, pe nume Stefan. Cei doi tineri au început deja să vorbească şi nici să-şi facă ochi dulci nu se sfiesc. Ceea ce nu ştie Elena este că Stefan este de fapt un vampir în vârstă de 200 de ani. Chiar dacă este vampir, Stefan încearcă să-şi ascundă instinctele. Stefan are un frate , pe nume Damon care, faţă de Stefan, îşi continuă viaţa de vampir, rănind oameni şi încercând chiar s-o ucidă pe Elena. Acesta fiind punctul de pornire al unei rivalităţi atroce între cei doi fraţi. Serialul The Vampire Diaries este o adaptare a unei serii de cărţi publicate în 1991.
